Publication fees

Authors of accepted JCI manuscripts are assessed a publication fee for the Research, the Clinical Research and Public Health, and the Research Letter categories. The fee supports the following expenses:

• Editorial Board and staff
• Copyediting and layout process and staff
• Online publication on www.jci.org freely available to anyone, anywhere
• Depositing to PubMed, PubMedCentral, and other databases
• IT infrastructure and staff to support all of the above 
• General and administrative expenses to support all of the above

Specific fee information

Authors receive an invoice with the publication proof. JCI is a Gold Open Access journal in which all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Authors retain copyright to their work, which is published with a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).

Publication waivers and discounts

Waivers

ASCI offers waivers for papers published in our fully open access journal whose corresponding authors are based in the world’s lowest income locations as defined by Research4Life eligibility. All requests for waivers must be made here.

• Eligibility is described here. In accordance with these guidelines ASCI recognizes:
  • A 100% waiver for countries listed in Group A.
  • A 50% waiver for countries listed in Group B.

Discounts

Requests from other authors for discounts will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may be granted in cases of financial need. All requests for discounts must be made here.
