THIS REPORT has been prepared to describe the design and current status of the
Normative Aging Study, a longitudinal study of healthy aging sponsored by the Veterans
Administration. Since there are several other longitudinal aging studies underway around
the country, the distinctive characteristics of the present investigation will be stressed. The
study is in its initial stages, with Ss being recruited and screened, and with medical
