The hepoxilins are a family of hydroxy epoxide metabolites of 1ZHPETB (Pace-Asciak et al.,
1983a; Pace-Asciak and Martin, 19841, the initial product formed by the action of
1Zlipoxygenase on arachidonic acid (Hamberg and Samuelsson, 1974). Two hepoxilins (A3
and Bs) are distinguished by the position of the hydroxyl group, ie at C8 or ClO, while both
compounds contain an 11, 12-epoxide group (Pace-Asciak et al., 1983a). The structures of
