Upon hormone binding, the activated glucocorticoid receptor (GR) functions as a
transcription factor via different modes of action to control gene expression. Recent gene-
targeting studies in mice provide new insight into the role of GR in vivo and are helping
decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying its actions.
