Lipoprotein abnormalities associated with a familial deficiency of hepatic lipase

A hyperlipoproteinemic patient was investigated for lipoprotein abnormalities as a result of
an abnormally high proportion (30%) of triglyceride in low density lipoprotein (LDL), the
presence of β-VLDL as well as a reduced post-heparin lipolytic activity. Analysis of the
component lipase activities in the proband and his brother by selective inactivation with
protamine or by affinity chromatography revealed that lipoprotein lipase was present in
