Since glucose is the principal energy source for most cells, many organisms have evolved
numerous and sophisticated mechanisms to sense glucose and respond to it appropriately.
In this context, cloning of the carbohydrate responsive element binding protein has
unraveled a critical molecular link between glucose metabolism and transcriptional
reprograming induced by glucose. In this review, we detail major findings that have
advanced our knowledge of glucose sensing.
