DISCUSSION Exercise requires major metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments in order to
increase the supply of fuels and oxygen to brain, muscle, and other organs. Normally the
blood glucose varies little despite marked increases in exercise-stimulated glucose
utilization (1, 2, 9). Normoglycemia is maintained by an increase in hepatic glucose output
(2, 9). Increases in catecholamine secretion during exercise (2, 7) decrease insulin secretion

Normally the blood glucose varies little despite marked increases in exercise-stimulated glucose utilization (1, 2, 9). Normoglycemia is maintained by an increase in hepatic glucose output (2, 9).
