Mechanisms of lung injury in the copper-deficient hamster model of emphysema

Materials and Methods Golden Syrian hamsters were mated, and as soon as pregnancy was
first suspected the pregnant females were separated into control and experimental (copper-
deficient) groups. At this time the animals were begun on control or copper-deficient diets
(Teklad Test Diets), respectively. Offspring were continued on the respective diets of their
mothers after weaning.
