Since its inception in 1980, the registry of the International Society for Heart and Lung
Transplantation (ISHLT) has chronicled the evolution of heart, lung and heart–lung
transplantation. Annual reports from the registry were inaugurated in 1984, and information
about heart–lung transplantation has been included in the reports from the onset. As lung
transplantation developed, it was added to the reports beginning in 1989. Through June 30,
2006 the registry had accrued data on 3,262 heart–lung and 23,716 lung recipients from …
