At first glance, obesity, the metabolic syndrome (MetS), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM),
cardiovascular disease (CVD), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-
alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) appear to be very different and separate entities. However,
