Over the last few years there have been a number of reviews on ketogenesis and its control
(see sect. III), but ketone-body utilization, in contrast, has been somewhat neglected. The
last review to deal extensively with the importance of ketone-body metabolism in peripheral
tissues appeared in 1970 (381). Therefore our aim here is to bring together the new
information published over the past 10 years and to build onto the framework provided by
the early studies.
