The low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 gene (Lrp4) was identified by
subtractive screening of cDNAs of the migratory primordial germ cells (PGCs) of E8. 5–9.5
embryo and E3. 5 blastocysts. Lrp4 is expressed in PGCs in the hindgut and the dorsal
mesentery of E9. 5 embryos, and in germ cells in the genital ridges of male and female E10.
