Elevation of plasma levels of macrophage migration inhibitory factor in patients with acute myocardial infarction

We read with great interest the article by Yu et al1 on the elevated plasma levels of
macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in patients with acute myocardial infarction
(AMI). The authors demonstrated that plasma MIF levels rapidly and markedly became
elevated as early as 4 to 6 hours after the onset of AMI, and then peaked at the first 24 hours.
The MIF levels on day 1 accounted for up to a fivefold increase compared with that in the
