tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) in which the transient intracellular production of hydrogen
peroxide, as a result of growth factor/mitogen stimulation of cell surface receptors, leads to
the rapid inactivation of PTPs by the modification of their invariant catalytic cysteine thiolate
