Six instances of vitiligo involving chiefly the hands and feet occurred among 90 patients with
Graves' disease. The vitiligo usually preceded the onset of the symptoms of Graves' disease.
Autoantibodies against thyroid were present in five of six patients, and long-acting thyroid
stimulator (LATS) was present in three of six. The vitiligo may be another manifestation of
autoimmunity. When present it is a helpful clinical diagnostic point suggesting the presence
of Graves' disease.
