Pancreatic cancer remains a devastating disease. Over the last few years, there have been
important advances in the molecular and biological understanding of pancreatic cancer.
This included understanding of the genomic complexity of the disease, the role of pancreatic
cancer stem cells, the relevance of the tumor microenvironment, and the unique metabolic
adaptation of pancreas cancer cells to obtain nutrients under hypoxic environment. In this
paper, we review the most salient developments in these few areas.
