Platelet-activating factor (PAF) has been implicated in a number of physiologic and disease
processes. The role of this autacoid in reproductive biology is now clearly established. The
relationship of PAF to fetal lung maturation and parturition, including some complications of
pregnancy, is stressed in this article. Included in this discussion are the roles of PAF in
