Abstract
Hints are given for avoiding DNA contamination when performing the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (which is a serious problem because of the sensitivity of the process). Experimenters are advised to physically isolate PCR preparations and products from other experiments, autoclave solutions, aliquot reagents, use disposable gloves, avoid splashes, use positive displacement pipettes, premix reagents, add DNA last and choose positive and negative controls carefully (including a "no DNA" control). Equipment should be washed with 1 smallcap˜m HCL.
