Serial stool samples (n 5 14) were collected from admission (at age 9 months) to assess for
the presence of rotavirus. RNA was extracted from each sample and subjected to a VP6
[viral protein 6]-specific RT-PCR assay. 4 Each PCR product was sequenced to characterize
the origin of the VP6 gene. All VP6 genes exhibited 100% identity to the RotaTeq vaccine
