Coal tar ointments (CTO) are frequently used in the treatment of psoriasis and eczema, but
CTO contain carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). PAH are absorbed and
metabolized in the skin. In psoriasis, the skin barrier is altered and therefore, absorption and
