Development of specific IgE antibodies after repeated exposure to snake venom

A patient who had been working with snakes for many years developed urticarial lesions on
contact with the venom of the poisonous rinkals (Haemachates haemachatus). More
recently, the patient complained of generalized allergic reactions occurring within minutes of
exposure to the venom. The patient's serum, but not control sera, contained IgE antibodies
that reacted with the specific snake venom in an ELISA and was demonstrated to associate
