Since 1996, a number of investigators have carried out phase I-II studies of high-dose
immunosuppression with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in
autoimmune diseases. Most of this activity has been in studies of multiple sclerosis (MS),
systemic sclerosis (SSc), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and
