Mammalian mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) 1 pathways regulate an extensive
range of cellular processes including gene transcription, cytoskeletal organization,
metabolite homeostasis, cell growth, and apoptosis. At the physiologic level, MAPK
pathways are likely to be critical to the pathogenesis of a number of important clinical
conditions including oncogenesis, diabetes, ischemic injury, arthritis, and septic shock.
