Antagonists of integrin α4β1 induce apoptosis in ECs and pericytes. Cryosections from bFGF-stimulated CAMs that were treated for 24 hours with either anti–integrin α4β1 (HP1/2) or cIgG (anti–integrin αvβ5, P1F6) antibodies were immunostained to detect vWF (red) and SMA (red). Sections were also treated to detect apoptotic cells by TUNEL analysis (green). Representative blood vessels are indicated by arrowheads.
