Antagonists of integrin α₄β₁ induce apoptosis in ECs and pericytes. Cryosections from bFGF-stimulated CAMs that were treated for 24 hours with either anti–integrin α₄β₁ (HP1/2) or cIgG (anti–integrin α_vβ₅, P1F6) antibodies were immunostained to detect vWF (red) and SMA (red). Sections were also treated to detect apoptotic cells by TUNEL analysis (green). Representative blood vessels are indicated by arrowheads.
